Land Rover has a special place, meaning and weight in the world of four-wheel drive vehicles. With over 60 years of tradition, this company has occupied a specific segment on the SUV market. Simply, if you need a real off-roader, Land Rover is the best choice, and if you need a real luxury SUV, again, Land Rover is the choice.

Land Rover was created in the conditions of post-war construction and reconstruction as a car for all conditions and to help people in the wilderness of Africa, Asia, but also in snow-bound Austria. The two leading men of the British company Rover in the period after World War II, the brothers Maurice and Spencer Wilks, were very important for the creation of Land Rover. Spencer came up with the idea of ​​a new car model, which would be cheap to manufacture and reliable. Maurice Wilks is in charge of the commercial beginning of the story. Maurice Wilks, spending time on a farm on the Isle of Anglesey, off the coast of North Wales, needed a vehicle that would serve him for towing and work on the farm as well as for road transport.

He realized that there was nothing on the market that could satisfy his needs and decided with his brother to make it. Work on the prototype began in 1947. Bord Rovera was interested in this idea and left free hands to the constructors. The prototype had an aluminum body, a four-cylinder 1.6 liter engine with 50 hp. Thanks to changes in stroke and piston diameter, torque was at a high level. The gearbox also belonged to the Rover family, and the all-wheel drive system was completely new. Namely, the Land Rover had a clutch system that allowed each axle to turn at a different speed, which is far more useful on rough terrain. During 1948, 25 vehicles were built and sent for final testing, and one example was sent to the 1948 Amsterdam Motor Show.

The public was very surprised by this vehicle as well as the specialized press, and it was noted that Rover itself was amazed by the good reception of their debut. Thanks to the support, the Land Rover was quickly put into production to meet high demand and great business in post-war Britain and the world. The initial popularity was so great that in the first year of production, Land Rover doubled the number of produced Rovers (passenger vehicles), and that trend continued until the 60s! The rest is the history of a successful brand and a legendary model that defined the perception of an off-road vehicle and its use and changed motoring forever.

Immediately after the start of sales, Land Rover gained a reputation that it maintains to this day. The qualities and off-road capabilities of this car have become legendary, and the high level of build quality means that around 70% of all Land Rovers built are still on the road, the best result in the car industry. Today's Land Rover offer consists of a number of new models, while the famous "debut" Land Rover Defender can be considered a typical Land Rover, in terms of design and quality, usability and charm.

Due to its robustness and reliability, Land Rover is an official military and police vehicle in many armies of the world, including in the army and police of the Republic of Serbia. For these tasks, the factory produced numerous special versions for various needs. An important moment in the history of Land Rover came in 1970, when the first Range Rover was presented, i.e. a luxury SUV, with great looks and comfort, but undiminished usability, which defined the class, became enormously popular and even remained in production for over 20 years. Perhaps younger users of the application know the Land Rover factory only through the current models of Range Rover, Discovery or Evoque, but the truth is that this brand has been present on our roads since the early 60s of the 20th century.
